Department planning
What department planning is for
Once departments are mapped, you can edit a plan per department instead of just at company level. Production owns its own headcount and direct-cost line; Sales owns its commissions; each department head plans inside their slice and the totals roll up to the company plan automatically.
TL;DR
Tick Plan by departments when you create a plan, then use the scope pill in the Planning subheader to switch between Company (rolled-up totals) and a single department (just that slice).
Creating a by-department plan
In the create-plan dialog, tick Plan by departments under Plan structure. The checkbox is locked when the add-on is off, with a tooltip pointing to Billing. The flag persists on the plan and changes how Planning renders for it.
Plan scope pill
The Planning subheader carries a scope pill with Company pinned at the top followed by every org department. Pick Company to view the rolled-up totals (read-only — they’re the sum of the department slices); pick a department to edit just that slice.
What changes in dept scope
When a department is selected (i.e. anything other than Company):
- The P&L truncates at EBITDA — Depreciation & amortization, Net interest, EBT, Tax expense, and Net income roll up centrally and are not editable per department.
- An Investments block appears below the P&L for the dept head’s capex / asset-sale entries per fixed-asset L2 (with useful-life chip; D&A schedules roll up centrally, so the dept head only enters the asset side). Entries roll up into the centrally planned fixed-asset L2 positions on the Balance Sheet (and the matching cash-flow lines) — there is no separate per-department BS, just a per-department contribution to the central one.
- The Balance Sheet and Cash Flow tabs are disabled — both stay central.
In Company scope, P&L L2s above EBITDA can be expanded to drill per department, so admins can compare what each department contributes side by side without leaving the company-totals view.
How it surfaces in Financials
The same scope pill is mounted in Financials, plus a 4th view toggle — Dept — that switches columns to departments instead of months. The Total column is pinned alongside the Label so it doesn’t scroll out of view at 10+ departments. The same truncation and Investments-block rules apply.
